You want a smart thermostat and you want to be able to regulate the temperature per room? Then you are faced with a difficult choice, because the offer is enormous, while the needs obviously differ per living situation. And so you look for what is the best solution for you, is that Tado, Honeywell home or Netatmo? And what are the differences between them?

It is not easy to compare these top brands with each other. Go ahead and try to compare these quantities – because that's what they are – with each other. All three brands offer value for money. The differences that already exist are very small. Moreover, the choice you make always depends on your specific wishes and your specific living situation.

The mutual differences

Do you put Tado, Honeywell evohome and Netatmo next to each other and do you want to work with smart thermostats and zone control systems? Then there are some differences between the three. We now focus on the solutions for zone heating (not sure exactly what this means? You read it here)

Some important differences:

  • Do you have underfloor heating? Then Netatmo will fall off because they do not have an official solution for underfloor heating

  • Do you have underfloor heating in several rooms that you want to control separately? Then vaan evohome is the most obvious. Tado can also do this but often a little less easy

  • The central communication point with evohome is the control panel, which is often hanging or standing in the living room. At tado, this is the bridge, which you can move through the house if necessary to receive some components. Netatmo has a relay that you can also move around the house.

  • The maximum number of zones with evohome is 12, while with Tado and Netatmo it is 10.

  • With evohome there is 1 temperature sensor in the radiator knob, with Tado and Netatmo there are 2 and the temperature is averaged.

  • Evohome is not compatible with Apple HomeKit, Tado and Netatmo are

  • The evohome system is more extensive, especially with underfloor heating, but also more difficult to install than its competitors.

  • Evohome and Netatmo have a separate model for an on/off or Opentherm control, Tado  has the and more protocols on the same model. This is useful if, for example, you replace your old central heating boiler in the future with a new one with a different control.

  • Tado monitors larger systems remotely to see if they are working correctly and can always monitor if something goes wrong.

  • Geofencing works at evohome and Netatmo with an external app, Tado  has this in its own app with even more features such as consumption, energy advice and air quality.

  • The radiator controls from Tado are a bit quieter and more compact than those from  evohome and look a bit more modern. The buttons from Netatmo are the same size as those from evohome, but are slightly quieter.

evohome tado Netatmo

Application from Tado, control panel from Honeywell

If you look more at the functionalities of the Tado app, it is a lot better and more versatile than that of evohome. Netatmo is in between, it is more beautifully designed than that of evohome, but it loses out against the many possibilities of Tado. However, if you prefer to work with a control panel, then you choose Honeywell again, but you can also work with a Tado or Netatmo Google Nest Hub. Placing the different systems next to each other therefore gives you the picture that they differ somewhat at a detailed level and that the differences that exist are minimal. Your taste plays a role as does your living situation in the choice you make. In any case, it is wise to discuss your choice with a professional, and to leave your choice for a certain brand open first.

All of them always deliver top-shelf quality

The conclusion is therefore that all brands simply offer top-shelf quality. You can say that in the world of smart thermostats and zone systems, these three brands stand out and clearly distinguish themselves from the other providers, and there are plenty of other providers. The living situation, your taste and your budget play a role, just like the desire to be able to expand a system even further at a later stage, play a role in the choice that ultimately makes.
